The Pirate Parrrrrty

My sweet little Jackson just turned 3!  Jacks loves pirates right now so I wasn't surprised at all when he said he wanted a pirate swimming party.  He was looking forward to his birthday for weeks.  He loves kids and he was so excited to swim with his friends. We invited his cousins and a couple of his friends.  We set up a couple pools and then I buried some cute little treasure boxes filled with candy and necklaces in sand so the kids could dig for buried treasure.  We did pirate prize bags with a pirate hat, glow stick sword, eye patch, water gun, and water ball. My boys had so much fun.
This is the only picture Jacks is actually looking at the camera. He was having to much fun to pose for pictures.  He loved digging for buried treasure.

Link had fun  digging in the sand and eating all the treats from his treasure box.

Jacks got tons of really nice presents.  Tons of new pirate toys!

What We've Been Up to in May

Jordan is officially a CPA!  I’m so proud of him, becoming a CPA is not easy!  He had to get a master’s degree, work a ton of hours under a CPA, and take 4 ridiculously hard tests and 2 state tests.  He spent countless hours studying.  He’s a great example to my boys.  I’m so glad I married someone that works so hard and recognizes the value of an education.  He is a great example of following through and doing whatever it takes to accomplish a goal.  Jordan’s been home a lot more now that he’s done and the boys and I love it!  He has a little more time now for golf, basketball, and other hobbies.

Jacks

I always hear people talk about the terrible 2’s but really they should talk about the terrible 3’s!  Jacks won’t actually be 3 for another month but I don’t see him growing out of the phase he’s in right now for a while.  With Jacks 12-20 months was really hard and then he actually got a little easier until recently.  He’s kind of whiny and really disobedient.  He’s so stubborn and won’t listen to Jordan or me.  We ask him to do something and he just completely ignores us.

We’ve started working on potty training again and it is not going well.  I’ve promised him tons of different things like playing with his friends, treats, and trips to the park if he potty trains.  It seems to motivate him for about 5 minutes.  He just hates stopping what he’s doing to go to the bathroom.  It’s a pain but hopefully he’ll get it soon.  One minute he acts like he wants to potty train then the next he refuses to do it.  It’s so frustrating.  At this rate he might be potty trained by the time he’s 5.

Jacks is kind of a pain in the butt a lot of the time but he’s a really fun kid.  He is so smart and says the funniest things.  It’s hard to be mad at him sometimes because he is so hilarious.  He’s a really sweet brother.  He fights with Link a lot and picks on him a ton but mostly he’s really sweet to Link.  They’re so cute they hold hands a lot and play together.  He always worries about Link.  Anytime he gets something he always makes sure that Link gets the same thing.  He always tells me “Get one for Link too mom.”  He watches Link while we're outside playing he stops him from running into the road.  He’s getting better at sharing with Link.  He says “I’m sharing mom.”  A lot of the time he says that he’s actually the one benefiting from sharing but he’s getting it.  He’s definitely improved lately.  He gives Link lots of hugs and kisses.  He’s really sweet.

Link
Link is 15 months now and he’s getting so big!  He gained some weight since his 12 month check he weighs 19 lbs 9 oz and he’s in the 8th percentile.  He always seems to be hungry we call him the pit because he’s kind of like a bottomless pit sometimes.  He’s still picky but getting better about what he’ll eat.  He’s 31.5 inches tall in the 62nd percentile for height.  His growth has slowed down a little bit he has always been somewhere in the 70-80 percentile range.  The doctor said there is something weird with the way his ribs are shaped.  I wasn’t actually able to take him to the appointment because I had a job interview so I didn’t get to hear exactly what the problem is and my mom couldn’t remember.  The doctor said its fine now but might cause him some problems as a teenager so he’s going to watch it.  Jordan actually has the same problem and it hasn’t really caused him any problems so hopefully Link will be okay.

Link is the happiest kid.  He really is pleasant to be around.  The only time he is grumpy is when he is really tired and even tired he’s usually pretty happy.  He is really busy which is a ton of work for us but he’s just so happy all the time that it makes it a lot easier.  He’s always just running around smiling and talking.

Now that the weather is nice we spend most of our time outside.  We try to go on little walks and hikes a couple times a week.  The boys love being outside and exploring new places.

Dripping Rock Trail: Fun trail right next to Spanish Fork golf course.  Water drips out of rocks.  It's shaded and really fun the kids really liked it.

Squaw Peak:  We had a little picnic up there and watched paragliders.

The Grotto: Up Payson Canyon.  Fun little hike with lots of cute little river crossings.  It's probably less than 1/2 a mile it was great for kids.  We loved it!  It's one of my favorite hikes now.

Bridal Veil Falls: When we went there was still snow on the falls.  Jacks had fun walking on the snow.

Playing Pooh sticks on the bridge
Battle Creek Falls: Battle creek falls is a fun little hike it's at the end of 200S in PG.  It is a little longer about a mile and Jackson kind of had a hard time toward the end.

Moab

Last year at Jordan's summer work party he won a free night stay at any hotel. Jordan didn't care how we used it so he left the planning up to me.  Being as my brother-in-law calls me a "granola" I planned a hiking trip.  We had to wait forever because Link was to little to leave last year.  Finally last week we got to use our free night to go to Moab.  We left the kids with my parents and went with Jordan's brother and his wife.
We left early in the morning and it rained the whole way down.  We had planned to spend the two days down there at Arches National Park but because it was pouring when we got close to Moab we decided to make a stop at Dead Horse Point.  When we got there it was pouring!  We actually braved the storm and ran out to see the view.  We couldn't see much in the rain and got soaked!
As you can see from this picture we couldn't see much.
It finally stopped pouring but was still sprinkling and very cloudy and windy so we didn't really dare to try hiking at Arches yet.  We couldn't check into our hotel until later in the afternoon so we were kind of stuck in the rain with no where to wait out the storm except the car.  We decided we might as well check out Canyonlands while we had nothing else to do.  Canyonlands was so beautiful!  I'd been there before but I really didn't remember it very well.  It was well worth the drive.

Canyonlands

While we were at Canyonlands the weather started to clear up so we went on a little 1/2 mile hike to Mesa Arch.  It was beautiful!  The view from Mesa Arch was my favorite view!
It was still super windy as you can tell by my hair.

After Canyonlands we finally made it Arches!
Arches
It was still cloudy and windy and sprinkled on and off so we didn't do any long hikes the first day just short hikes.

These two crazies climbed everywhere!  I seriously thought they were going to die.

I seriously thought one of them was going to die climbing this!
 Skyline Arch
 Balanced Rock
 Park Avenue
Delicate Arch
The second day we were there the weather was a ton better it was still cold and windy but it was at least sunny.  First thing in the morning we hiked delicate arch.  We went early enough that there weren't a lot of people there yet.  It was so nice! We got lots of pictures without tons of people and it was quiet and beautiful.

On the way to delicate arch there's a giant rock wall and there's a little arch in it.  On the way back we climbed up to the arch and you could see delicate arch through it.
 Double O Arch Hike
After Delicate Arch we hiked the Double O Arch.  This trail is fun because there's a ton of arches on the trail.
Landscape Arch

On top of the scariest rock fin ever! Drop offs on both sides.  It was seriously scary but you can't beat that view.

Double O Arch in the background.  It was so windy we didn't hike down to it.

After we hiked the Double O we went home.  Moab was so fun!  The weather wasn't the best but it ended up being really nice because there weren't as many people there and we went to Canyonland which we wouldn't have done if not for the rain.  We did so much in 2 days!  The only thing I feel like we missed was the fiery furnace because it was sold out but there's always next time!  On our next trip to Moab we'll take our kids and I'm sure they'll love it as much as I do.
