August 2016

August has ended at last and fall is almost here!  June and July are always fun full of birthdays, holidays, and just the excitement of a new season.  I usually really good at the beginning of the summer taking my kids to do tons of exciting summer activities like the splash pad and pool but by August I'm just kind of tired of the heat and just generally tired.  We usually don't do quite as much during the month of August.  This year was kind of crazy though there have been some fun changes lately.

Jacks

Jacks started school. He really likes it a lot.  I was so nervous for him and he was really nervous but he's really enjoyed it.  His teacher seems great and he's really enjoying it.  He had one friend from our ward in his class and he says he's made some new friends.  He's already learned a few things which is great.  We work on writing his name and other basic kindergarten work every night so far.  He's really enjoying it and I've already noticed that he has desire the sit and learn things more than before.  I've worked with him at home a lot and he just gets so bored and distracted.  But even just in the past few days since he started he seems more interested.

It's been so good for Jacks and Link to be apart for a few hours.  I just wish it was longer.  As wonderful as school starting has been it also has had some challenges.  Jacks is in the morning session which starts at 8:30 and it's kind of hard to get there on time sometimes.  Jacks also told me that one of the kids that sits at his table is a bully and has been kind of mean to him.  It doesn't seem to bother him that much but it stresses me out so much.  My kids being bullied is seriously one of my biggest fears.  It makes me so sad that someone would be mean to sweet little Jacks he can be a huge stinker but he is seriously the sweetest kid especially to his friends.  I'm a little worried about it and I hope it doesn't become an issue and he just make other friends. Jacks is seriously so nice to his friends he's never struggled to make friends.  He is really social.  I've never really worried about him being bullied just because he's so big for his age and he's never had trouble making friends.  It worries me though.

Jacks is a little behind.  I talked to his teacher at his assessment and she said he's a little behind.  I'm really hoping that we can catch him up before the end of the year. He can't quite write his name which he should be able to so we're really working on that and counting.  He can count to 11 now and he only knows a few letters.  I think just the fact that he's a little more willing to sit and focus he'll catch up. Jackson's class is huge!  I think there are 28 kids which is huge for a kindergarten class.  They just go another kindergarten teacher and I'm debating putting him in the new class.  They're only letting 15 kids in the new class and I think it would be good for him to have a smaller class and he'd get away from the bully hopefully.

Link

Link is having a good time without Jacks around.  I've decided a lot of Link's grumpiness is associated with Jacks.  When Jacks is at school he's so pleasant!  I've been having a good time together Harrison usually takes a nap around 9:30 so Link and I have an hour and half with just us so it's kind of fun.  I kind of wish I'd registered him for preschool this year but he really doesn't need it.

Link is finally potty trained!!!!  It took forever but he finally did it in July!  It was seriously a battle with him.  My mom bought him some Spider-man underwear so he decided to potty train so he could wear those.  He was almost 3 1/2.  He was definitely a nightmare to potty train.

Harrison

Harrison has changed so much in the past month!  It's so crazy how much babies change so quickly.  He's 5 months now.  He's at my favorite baby age he can interact and talk but he can't move yet. He isn't my little new born anymore he's just getting huge!  He's still tall and super skinny but he's starting putting a little chunk on his thighs.

We started him on baby food and he loves it!  He is a pretty good eater he's not very picky at all he'll eat almost anything which is really good.  He still gets up a couple times during the night to eat.  He just cut a tooth!  His bottom left tooth came in a couple of days ago. He did not handle teething very well. He's been kind of a grouch. I just hope he isn't this bad with all his teeth. He was up every hour at night and just super fussy all day.

Harris is getting really good with his hands now.  He grabs everything and puts it straight in his mouth.  He really likes toys a lot and random things like the bag the wipes come in.  He can roll off his stomach and back now and he just rolls all over the place.  I can't leave him anywhere high anymore.

Harrison has a few nicknames lately.  We've always called him Harris or Harris Barris.  Link started calling him Bubba boo and it for some reason kind of stuck.  We call him Bubba or Bubs all the time now.  It's a pretty ugly name but for some reason it just fits.
First food green beans

A couple of weeks ago we went to Disneyland!  It was kind of a last minute thing we just decided to go.  The whole trip was a little crazy!  We drove down to St. George on a Tuesday night.  The next day we started driving to California and my dad really wasn't feeling well.  He turned around and went to the hospital in St. George and ended up needing his appendix out.  Jordan, Shelley and I kept going to California and there was a forest fire on the way and the freeway was closed.  From St George to Disneyland it's only 6 hours.  We had to take this crazy detour that took us through a really windy canyon that took 2 extra hours.  Between stopping to feed Harrison and the detour it took us like 10 hours.  It was super hot and busy but we had fun.  Jackson and Link had a lot of fun.  Harrison was so good the whole trip it was just really hard on him.

We waited in line for over an hour to meet this guy.
